The market value hit $4.04 billion in 2024 and is forecasted to reach $13.57 billion by 2030, with an impressive 22.3% annual growth rate.

Major international and local players are making bold moves in the Malaysian tech ecosystem. In the first four months of 2025 alone, the country imported a staggering $6.45 billion worth of GPUs in anticipation of new AI deployments. Microsoft announced a $2.2 billion investment over the next four years, building three AI data centers in Greater Kuala Lumpur and Johor, with a regional launch scheduled for Q2 2025. Alongside digital infrastructure, Microsoft’s ‘AI for Malaysia’s Future’ aims to train 800,000 Malaysians in cutting-edge AI skills.

Oracle has committed $6.5 billion to launch its first Malaysian public cloud region, creating infrastructure ready for next-generation NVIDIA GPUs—positioning Malaysia among global leaders in AI computing. The YTL-NVIDIA partnership stands out by pledging $2.36 billion for an all-renewable energy data center park in Johor, plus plans for Malaysia’s first sovereign large language model tailored to local linguistic and cultural needs.

On the local side, companies like SNS Network are deploying the first-ever commercial NVIDIA H100 GPU-as-a-Service platform, while U.S.-based Introl brings in specialist teams to manage large-scale GPU rollouts and advanced liquid cooling solutions.

The growth surge presents challenges as well—power usage in Johor has spiked, and infrastructure strain is apparent with occasional outages. Malaysia’s government has rolled out initiatives like the Green Lane Pathway, streamlining data center approval to just 12 months and enforcing new zoning laws to protect residential areas. The National Energy Transition Roadmap lays out ambitious targets, aiming for 31% renewable energy by 2025 and 70% by 2050.
