US stocks experienced notable volatility after recent earnings releases, with major technology and EV companies in focus. AMD’s shares fell as investors digested mixed quarterly results. While the semiconductor company continues to post strong growth in its data center segment, concerns linger about margins and near-term demand for AI chips. The company’s cautious guidance contributed to the lackluster market response, despite revenues that mostly matched expectations.
Rivian also found itself in the spotlight after delivering a second-quarter earnings report that unsettled the market. The electric vehicle maker reported revenue that surpassed expectations, reaching approximately $1.3 billion, but fell back into negative gross profit territory after showing improvement in prior quarters. More worries arose from Rivian’s widened full-year loss forecast, now estimated between $2.0 and $2.25 billion—up from an earlier range of $1.7 to $1.9 billion. The combination of a reduced federal EV tax credit and increased tariffs on Chinese components has hurt Rivian’s profitability and created additional uncertainty.
Despite these setbacks, Rivian remains committed to long-term growth, with continued development of its new R2 electric SUV, which is slated to launch in the first half of 2026 at a base price of $45,000. A new strategic partnership with Volkswagen is expected to help Rivian lower its manufacturing costs, targeting a bill of materials around $32,000 per vehicle for the R2.
Meanwhile, Super Micro Computer’s stock plunged following its own earnings update. The company, known for its AI and server solutions, witnessed a sharp decline as investors reacted to signs of slower growth in its high-demand segments.
Investors are now weighing these results and forward-looking statements as they look for clarity in a market shaped by sector-specific challenges and shifting macroeconomic policies. Volatility is likely to remain elevated as companies adjust to new realities in tech and EV markets.
