Oil prices today: WTI crude trades near $99.30 and Brent crude near $99.29. The risk is Irans Kharg Island, the hub handling about 90% of Irans crude exports and loading up to 7 million barrels per day. Kharg Island is a coral outcrop roughly one-third the size of Manhattan, sitting 25 kilometres off Iran’s southwestern coast in the northern Persian Gulf. Despite its tiny footprint, it handles approximately 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports. The Strait of Hormuz already carries about 20% of world oil flows. Any disruption there could push Brent crude and WTI futures well above $120, triggering the next global oil price spike.
